Centre County accident leaves Tyrone motorcyclist with severe injuries

A two-vehicle accident in Centre County yesterday morning left a 35-year-old Tyrone man, Gary L. Decker, with severe injuries.
Police said 64-year-old Lois E. Reese of Julian was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto a private drive from the northbound lane of State Route 550, approximately 1/10 of a mile north of Beckwith Road in Halfmoon Township.
Reese failed to observe Decker’s motorcycle as he was traveling in the oncoming traffic lane. Reese turned in front of Decker’s motorcycle.
The bike hit the front side of Reese’s car. The motorcycle slid out of control and traveled along the west berm for about 80 feet before striking an intersection sign. At that point, Decker was ejected from the bike.
Decker sustained severe injuries and was flown to Altoona Regional Medical Center by air for treatment. Police said he was not wearing a seat belt.
Reese was treated for minor injuries at the scene before being transported to Mt. Nittany Medical Center for follow-up. Reese was wearing a seat belt.
A passenger in her car, 87-year-old Lois A. Mary of Julian, was also wearing a seat belt and was not hurt.
Damage to both vehicles was described as disabling.
Philipsburg state police were assisted by members of the Port Matilda Fire Company.
