Tyrone Area YMCA Camp Sun-N-Fun in full swing as summer heats up

Campers are ready for another exciting summer as Camp Sun-N-Fun kicked off activities last week.
This year, campers are meeting at the Tyrone Area Elementary School, but there are also many outside activities planned for the upcoming months.
A couple of days each week are spent at Bellwood-Antis Park where the kids can enjoy the summer weather and swim at the community pool.
Participants also enjoy various activities and games including arts and crafts, sports, nature and much more throughout the summer.
Each week at camp is geared to a specific theme. In a typical week, campers will travel to the Bellwood-Antis Community Swimming Pool on Monday and Wednesday and remain on site at TAES on Tuesday and Thursday for a day of crafts, food projects, basketball, baseball, kickball, tennis, games and more. Then, the week ends with an exciting field trip to various sites throughout Blair County. Last week campers enjoyed a trip to Galactic Ice. Upcoming field trips include Holiday Bowl on June 23 and DelGrosso’s Amusement Park and slides on June 30.
In July, a trip to the movie theater is scheduled for July 7 followed by a visit to Slinky Action Zone on July 14. On July 21 campers will travel to Lakemont Park and on July 28 they will visit the Penn State Bug Museum and Planetarium.
Morrison’s Cove is the scheduled field trip on August 4 and on August 11 plans include a visit to the Raystown Wild River Water Park. Finally, on August 18, campers will visit the Tyrone swimming pool for their final field trip of the season.
Camp Sun-N-Fun is divided into two age groups. The first is for children who have completed Kindergarten, first and second grades. These campers will meet in room B115 at the Tyrone Area Elementary School. Older campers, who have completed third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades meet in room A122.
Camp director Linda Klesius is back this year. A familiar face to the Tyrone YMCA summer camp program, Klesius has spent many years working at the summer camp, preschool program and before/after school program. Other summer camp counselors include Danielle Coho, Erica Bennett, Sarah Russell, Amanda Snyder, Aaron Hileman and Chelsea Lechner.
Pricing for day camp, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday is $91.25 per week or $20.25 per day. Staff members ask that parents make every effort to pick their children up on time. Overtime fees will be charged for pick-ups after 6 p.m.
There is a one time cost of $7 for a camp T-shirt. The shirt must be worn on all field trips.
