CPHS to benefit from motorcycle run

Motorcycle enthusiasts throughout central Pennsylvania can look forward to some major changes in the 2006 “Bikers for Barkers” dice run to benefit homeless animals at the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society.
The traditional July 4 weekend event will be held on Saturday, July 1 this year with a new twist. The run will begin and end at Burgi’s Roundhouse (just across the highway from the CPHS shelter off Interstate-99 in Altoona).
In addition to the 100-mile ride throughout the region, participants will be treated to a very special spaghetti dinner as prepared and served by Burgi’s, music from a top area classic rock band, and new this year, special biker games.
Those who take part will get a “limited edition” Bikers for Barkers T-shirt, and be eligible for cash prizes and be invited to bid on “top-end” donated items such as special overnight hotel stays, restaurant gift certificates, motorcycle related items and a weekend stay (golf or skiing included) at Blue Knob All Season Resort.
Registration for the ride is $20 per rider. CPHS officials suggest riders register early to expedite check-in procedures on the day of the event. Those who pre-register before the event will greatly speed-up the sign-up procedure on ride day.
As a main part of the “dice run” riders will roll dice at the beginning, middle and end of the run and have their scores recorded. Cash prizes ($100 for high roll, $50 for low roll) will be awarded to the high and low rollers.
Secure parking for riders will be provided at all locations. Check-in registration at Burgi’s runs from 10 a.m. until noon. The ride begins at noon.
The ride will be held rain or shine.
Last year’s event raised nearly $10,000 for CPHS and drew over 340 riders. For the latest details on this year’s ride, call CPHS’s Dave Hopkins at 942-2477 or pick-up registration forms at area motorcycle dealers, Burgi’s Roundhouse and shops in addition to the shelter.
