Tyrone Area elementary students raising money to fight cancer

Tyrone elementary students are joining in the fight against cancer by raising money and walking in the elementary gym on Thursday, June 1 beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Tyrone elementary students are holding a “Mini-Relay”, which is an abbreviated version of the American Cancer Society’s national signature activity, Relay for Life. Students will be collecting donations the last week of May and will walk in the gym for one class period as designated by their teachers.
“It’s a great opportunity for the students to make an impact in the community as well as become knowledgeable about cancer. The students feel good about themselves knowing they are doing something to help others,” said Brenda Cowger, elementary nurse and Mini-Relay coordinator.
The Mini-Relay will be an all day event complete with music and activities. All money raised by the Tyrone Area elementary students will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
Relay for Life will take place during the month of June in Blair County and is estimated to raise a considerable amount of money for the American Cancer Society’s mission of saving lives from cancer. The money raised by the elementary students will be donated to Relay for Life in the name of their school.
