Next roller hockey clinic set for Thursday

Tyrone Borough is offering a free roller hockey clinic on Thursday.
The clinic is for boys and girls interested in learning to play the game. It will be held at the roller hockey rink at Reservoir Park, next to the swimming pool.
A clinic was held last week for boys and girls between the ages five and 10-years-old. This Thursday’s clinic from 6 to 8 p.m. is for boys and girls between 11 and 17-years-old.
The borough is advising those who have their own equipment to bring it with them. Equipment needed includes roller blades, hockey sticks, knee/elbow pads, gloves and helmets (with a face cage). However, those who do not have all or any equipment are being encouraged to participate.
In a recent press release, Tyrone Borough officials said they have been gathering equipment during the past couple of years and they have a considerable amount that can be shared. The equipment includes many pairs of roller blades that have been donated. The borough will give the equipment to anyone in need that wants to play.
The borough’s press release encouraged people to “celebrate the introduction of yet another new activity for the youth of our community.” Borough officials noted they are seeking participation from volunteers.
There is no fee to use the rink. The borough is asking those wanting to use the roller rink to take care of the park. The rink will be open from 8 a.m. to dusk.
As of Monday, the entire park is now open for the season and remains open until Sept. 30. The lower portion of the park including the roller hockey rink will remain open until the end of October.
The borough’s release said the rink was built with “our young people in mind.” However, the borough said “mom and dad” were welcome if they “want to try their skills.” The borough encourages use of the rink by family and friends. Tyrone Borough will also be scheduling a family skate night in the near future.
