Household hazardous waste collection scheduled for June 10

If not properly disposed, many materials commonly found in the average home may pose risks to human health and to the environment. For this reason, these materials should be kept out of regular garbage.
In order to facilitate the proper collection and recycling/disposal of these materials, the Blair County Department of Solid Waste & Recycling is sponsoring a one day only household hazardous waste collection on Saturday, June 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Blair County Highway Garage located at 620 Loop Road, Hollidaysburg.
The cost to drop-off your household hazardous waste is $5 per car. This event is open to Blair County residents only. Please have a photo ID ready (i.e., a driver’s license) when you arrive at the gate.
From Altoona and points north, take Route 36 South to the intersection of Routes 36 and 22 in Hollidaysburg. Continue straight, go over the bridge then take the first exit (to the right). Turn right onto Loop Road at the yield sign. Proceed about 1/8 of a mile. (You will drive underneath the bridge you were just on.) The Blair County Highway Garage is located on the right. Please use the first gate to enter and remain in your vehicle at all times while at the drop-off location.
Acceptable items are: aerosols, antifreeze, household batteries, corrosive acids and bases, flammable liquids, solids and adhesives, fluorescent light bulbs, herbicides, fungicides, pesticides, medications, oil based paints, oil filters, used motor oil, organic peroxides, oxidizing liquids and solids, paint solvents, pool chemicals, PCB ballast and capacitors, poisonous liquids and solids, reactive and non-reactive chemicals and indeterminate chemicals.
At this time, no other items will be accepted at this event.
