Tyrone Hospital Art Gallery now featuring the work of distinguished watercolor artist

The Tyrone Hospital Art Gallery is now featuring the work of distinguished area watercolor artist, Andrew Moore.
Moore’s exhibit consists of more than 20 watercolors.
“Many of the pieces are new works that will have their first showing at the Tyrone Hospital gallery,” said Moore.
Moore is a native of Altoona. Born in 1913, Moore has been creating art since he was a child along with his parents who he describes as very creative in both music and art. He is a graduate of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He also has a degree in education from the Pennsylvania State University. He taught at Altoona Area High School for 20 years and another 20 at the Grier School. He was inducted into the Blair County Arts Hall of Fame in 2004.
Moore has exhibited in southern California, Philadelphia, and locally with the Tyrone Regional Arts Council, at St. Francis University, Mount Aloysius College, and the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art.
“Having taught at Grier School, many parents of foreign and American students purchased my paintings. Consequently, I have paintings in many U.S. cities and foreign countries including China, Japan, Chile, Norway, Ireland, Israel and others.”
Moore said he is inspired by things of great interest in color, shape, form or the unusual, and watercolor is his media of choice.
“This medium helps me get the spontaneity and freshness of color that satisfies me, though it is an unforgiving media since once on paper it cannot be changed.”
Although Moore is known for his floral watercolors, he has completed many landscapes and still life as well. One of his works is permanently on display in the physical therapy department at Tyrone Hospital which he donated in memory of Marjorie Hazzard, a long time member of the Tyrone Hospital Auxiliary.
The public is welcome to visit the hospital and enjoy Moore’s exhibit which will be on display on the first floor at Tyrone Hospital from December 19 to February 12.
