President of Tyrone Area Historical Society receives award

Nancy Smith was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Blair County Historical Society at the 2005 annual meeting at the Casino on November 13.
The presentation was a complete surprise to Nancy and was the highest award given that night. She was honored because of all she has accomplished for the Tyrone Area Historical Society as president in the most recent year, which has been much, according to Historical Society representative, Susie O’Brien.
Nancy has worked many hours and traveled many miles working for the preservation of Tyrone history in the museum, the Waring historical plaque, the many programs presented at the railroad throughout the years and the rotating displays.
She was also involved in the induction of the Tyrone School District’s curriculum of local history of the Tyrone area; the present display completed by local students on an historical event, “John F. Kennedy’s death”; walking tours with oral history to the grade school students and hours spent on obtaining grants for the society for future projects.
