B-A girls volleyball team falls in PIAA playoffs

The Bellwood-Antis girls varsity volleyball team traveled to Franklin Regional High School on Tuesday evening, for their PIAA state playoff opener to play North Catholic
The Lady Blue Devils fought valiantly, but dropped a very tough three-game set to the North Catholic girls.
In the battle to 25 points, Bellwood Antis lost to North Catholic 25-23, 25-17 and 25-21, taking their opponents to the limit and beyond before succumbing.
“Skill wise and the ability to play as a team this is one of the best teams that has come through the Bellwood Volleyball program, especially this senior class who has led us for the past two years to two very successful seasons,” explained Bellwood-Antis volleyball coach Stephanie Burner. “At the beginning of the season I noted that we would be a strong team, but was very concerned about our depth…as long as we could remain healthy I believed the 2005 volleyball team could do as well as last year. Unfortunately, in the end, injuries did effect our season. With two of our key players out at a key part in the season, both Meredith and Katie Palmer, we had to scramble quickly to put together a new line up. The girls gave a great effort in post season but never really seemed to click with that new lineup. I am very proud of these girls and proud of their accomplishments and hard work throughout this season. This team is what has made coaching truly enjoyable and rewarding.
Bellwood-Antis finish the 2005 season with a 20-2 record.
The Lady Blue Devils have won three straight MAC Division III championships and have never lost in the three-year history of the league. The B-A girls won their first 20 matches of the season in 2005, before dropping their District 6-A championship match to undefeated Northern Cambria for the second straight year. The North Catholic tilt was the Lady Blue Devils first PIAA trip of the season onto the PIAA playoff tournament.
