Lady Blue Devils gain more ground over West Branch

Bellwood-Antis and West Branch met at Bellwood for a MAC Division 3 showdown on Thursday night. The Lady Blue Devils were undefeated in league play, while the West Branch Lady Warriors had just one loss, to Bellwood-Antis earlier in the season.
Bellwood-Antis used the opportunity to turn back West Branch and continue an undefeated season, in which they have not lost a single game, again banishing their opponents in three straight games, 25-17, 25-16 and 25-21 to improve to 15-0 overall and 13-0 in Division 3 action.
Standouts for the Lady Blue Devils were Lauren Carter with 20 kills, seven blocks and four digs, Katie Palmer contributed 15 assists and five digs, Lauren Leap had 16 assists and five digs, Hilary Crider had five kills, and nine digs and Chelsea Wilson had nine service points.
“The girls truly stepped up tonight and played as a team,” said Bellwood-Antis volleyball coach Stephanie Burner. “West Branch is a tough opponent, but the girls seemed to take control from the first serve. You could tell they were determined. They are looking to their long term goals, but are reminded to take every match one game at a time.”
In junior varsity action, the Bellwood-Antis jayvees won a pair of close games , 25-22 and 25-20 to improve their record to 14-1.
Bellwood-Antis will host Claysburg-Kimmel on Tuesday before completing the regular season with road trips to Mount Union on Wednesday and Bishop Guilfoyle on Thursday. The Claysburg and Mount Union matches begin at 6 p.m. and the BG match at 6:30 p.m.
