Tyrone tennis team defeated by Central

The Tyrone tennis team completed a long five match road trip at central on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Dragons defeated the Tyrone girls 5-0 to send the Lady Eagles home with an 0-5 record for today’s home match on the Clay Avenue courts against Altoona.
The Number One singles match went into a super tiebreaker for the second time this year with Tyrone’s Becky Swann forcing Central’s Megan Hall into a third set with Hall finally coming out on top 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.
Rachel Maceno held her own at the Number two singles spot as well and along with Swann was singled out by Tyrone coach Mike Hample for praise.
“Becky Swann just gets better each time we have a match, sooner or later she is going to get a break and start on a win streak,” said Hample. “At number two singles, Rachel Maceno really impressed me in the match today against central. Although the score (6-1, 6-2) doesn’t indicate it, she was in the match all the way. There were so many long points and deuce points.
“The girls are all coming along. We are gaining experience in what is a rebuilding year for us.”
The Lady Eagles’ home match with a very tough Altoona team is set for 3 p.m. this afternoon.
