Tyrone junior high girls falls to Our Lady of Victory

The Tyrone junior high girls basketball team traveled to State College on Monday to play Our Lady of Victory.
The Tyrone Lady Eagles came out slow, and trailed 8-3 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second, Our Lady of Victory went up 17-8, before the Tyrone girls started to come back to make it 17-12 at halftime.
Playing much better in the third and fourth quarters, the Lady Eagles actually led for much of the second half after playing well with our full-court pressure.
“Rachel Emigh made a huge three-pointer to tie the game at 31 with 23 seconds left,” said Tyrone coach Kerry Naylor. “The play wasn’t designed for her, but she used her athleticism to create something and came up big in a big situation.”
Victory scored with 12 seconds left. We had a couple shots to tie the game but came up short.”
Emigh led the team with 19 points. Suzane Zimmerman had nine points.
“This was a team we beat handily twice last year, and I think early the girls sort of overlooked them,” said Naylor. “What we have to learn from this is that we can’t afford to overlook anyone. It’s frustrating because we’ve played some good teams, but in the last three games we have also lost two that we were leading in the fourth quarter. Both of those losses were by a combined three points.”
Tyrone (0-4) will host Lewistown today at 3:15 in the TAHS gym.
