Tyrone downs BEA in three straight games

The Tyrone girls volleyball team took three straight games from the bald Eagle Area girls at the Tyrone Elementary School gym on Tuesday evening to improve their record to 2-0 in the Mountain Athletic Conference and 4-1 overall.
The Lady Eagles varsity started slowly, edging BEA 25-23 in the opening game, then took control with solid 25-15 and 25-14 wins to post the victory.
Kim Cherry continued her setting with 15 assists and also led the team with 17 service points. Ashley Roth added seven kills and five blocks and Emily Lloyd had five digs.
“The girls played really strong as a team,” reflected Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg. “Bald Eagle was a tough opponent. I can’t say enough about the way Kim Cherry has jumped into the action in her first year as a setter, and all the seniors provided excellent leadership. Emily Lloyd, Ashley Roth, Marissa Hoover, Katie Schreckengost and Ashley Noll all played solid matches.
“Hopefully, we can use this win to gain momentum when we play Huntingdon, who leads our division.”
The junior varsity also won in two straight games 25-15 and 25-13 to improve to 2-0.
