Tyrone teen hurt in accident near Birmingham

A 19-year-old Tyrone teenager, Joshua Alan Wiser, suffered what state police termed “major injuries” in a two-vehicle accident last night near Birmingham Borough.
Huntingdon-based state police investigated the accident that happened around 6:45 p.m. on State Route 453, about three-fourths of a mile from Birmingham.
A press release said Wiser was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on the road. He lost control of his car which struck an embankment and then struck another vehicle head-on.
Police said Wiser was not wearing a seat belt and was transported to Altoona Regional Medical Center. A spokesperson at the facility said Wiser was in critical condition as of this morning.
The driver of the other vehicle, 36-year-old Heather Szymanski, of Whitehouse, OH, also suffered major injuries and was flown to the medical center via helicopter. She was listed in serious condition this morning.
Two children in her mini-van suffered moderate injuries and were also taken to the center for treatment. All the occupants in the mini-van were wearing seat belts, according to police.
Wiser’s car had heavy damage to its front, while Szymanski’s vehicle had heavy front and side damage.
Police were continuing their investigation at the time of their press release early today.
