The Dog House fills slot on Pennsylvania Avenue

The Dog House Restaurant opened late last month in downtown Tyrone.
The Dog House is owned by Rick and Amy Day. The business opened on June 26, according to the Days.
“The food is dog-gone good,” said Mrs. Day. “We want people to be satisfied with the food and say ‘The Dog House’ is the place to go when you want a great hot dog and delicious ice cream. We want people to relate and enjoy the setting and surroundings.”
The restaurant features hot dogs with a variety of toppings including sauce and cole slaw. They also feature chili cheese fries and regular fries. The Dog House has many ice cream treats including sundaes, milkshakes, tornadoes and banana splits. The restaurant has soft serve flavors such as chocolate and vanilla twist.
Mrs. Day said, “In addition to the traditional flavors, we also have a flavor burst machine which dispenses eight additional flavors: cheesecake, butter pecan, strawberry, blue-goo, raspberry, black-cherry, tropical-orange and butterscotch.
“Flavor burst cones are not only a delight to the eye, they are delicious,” added Day.
She said people who have tried the cole slaw hot dogs really like them. She recommended folks give them a try if they have never had one. Day said she has received requests to carry taco items and is still deciding on whether or not to add those to the menu. She also said the restaurant is considering adding a pork-ham barbecue to the list.
Day said the plans call for the restaurant to be open throughout the year.
A Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday, July 25 and an official grand opening will be held on Saturday, July 30.
The Dog House is located in the old Frozen Cow building at 1212 Pennsylvania Avenue. The phone number is 684-0100.
The business is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. The restaurant has 12 employees.
