TASD welcomes graduation speaker

At 7 p.m. this evening, in the high school auditorium, Dr. Patricia Mary Hoyne will deliver a 10-minute graduation talk to the 137 members of the class of 2005 at the Tyrone Area High School’s 124th Commencement Ceremonies.
A 1975 Honors Graduate of Tyrone Area High School, Dr. Hoyne was the youngest of Mr. and Mrs. William Hoyne’s seven children. She is the sister of Tyrone mathematics teacher, Barbara Hoyne McNelis. Dr. Hoyne launched her college career at Saint Francis University in nearby Loretto. At Saint Francis, she majored in biology and graduated with highest honors, before entering medical school.
Her medical journey led her to Georgetown University School of Medicine, where she decided to pursue a career in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She served her residency at Georgetown University and joined the teaching faculty there as well.
As she matured, her strong ties to her hometown of Tyrone called her to return and begin a medical practice in Altoona with The Geisinger Group. At the present time, this doctor is involved in private practice, but also assists in teaching medical residents and physician assistant students from Saint Francis University. Right now, she lives in Hollidaysburg with her children, Luke and Maggie.
Also speaking at Tyrone’s 124th Commencement Ceremonies will be Stacy Shaffer who will give the Invocation, Valedictorian Eric Nulton who will provide commencement reflections, Co-Salutatorian Katie Whitby who will introduce Dr. Hoyne, Co-Salutatorian Tad Chamberlain who will offer a class farewell speech and Benjamin Gummo who will give the benediction.
Although attendance at commencement 2005 requires an actual ticket, the Tyrone School Board invites all citizens of Tyrone to listen to the 124th graduation ceremonies live over WTRN radio station.
