Local churches to host several upcoming events

The Church of the Good Shepherd will hold its annual yard/bake sale tomorrow, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the social hall, located at 1650 Clay Avenue. This is the 11th year for the event and proceeds from the sale benefit the church.
Along with the yard sale items, which were donated to the church, there will also be plants for sale. A bake sale will be held and soup and apple dumplings will be available throughout the day.
The church youth also have a special project planned to help raise money. The youth will be holding a car wash in the lower parking lot, weather permitting. The public is invited to stop by the church to shop, eat and have their car washed.
Several other events are scheduled for the next few weeks at area churches.
This year\’s Baccalaureate Service is set for Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Tyrone Church of the Brethren on the corner of Adams Ave. and 18th St. Everyone is welcome to come and bless the graduating seniors. Pastor Jeff Miley will bring the message, while several students will be singing and speaking. Refreshments will follow the service in the social hall.
Also on Sunday, area residents can enjoy an evening of music. The Northwood Baptist Chapel will hold a hymn sing and praise service, beginning at 6 p.m. The evening will consist of traditional hymns along with special music by children and adults. Patriotic songs will also be a part of the service to honor service people.
The Sinking Valley Presbyterian Church will host a Musical Tapestry, beginning at 5 p.m. Sunday evening. This program is presented by members and friends of the Sinking Valley Church who would like to share their talents. Following the musical program, individuals are invited to join together for an Italian dinner and good fellowship. There is no charge to attend the musical program, although the church will accept donations to be used toward the purchase of music and audio equipment.
The Birmingham Presbyterian Church will hold a spaghetti dinner on Wednesday, May 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. The meal includes salad, spaghetti with meatballs, drinks, rolls and dessert. Take-outs are also available. The church will accept donations at the door to benefit the Birmingham Cemetery Association.
A free Bible course will be offered, beginning Wednesday evening at Rock of Ages Church on Columbia Avenue. Participants in the course, “Prayers, a communion with our Creator” will receive a certificate upon completion. The class will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Class size is limited so individuals are asked to call 684-5424 or 857-5429 for more information.
Coming in June, the Warriors Mark United Methodist Church will host a buffet dinner on Friday, June 3 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The dinner will feature turkey and pork. Cost for the event is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages five to 10. Children age four and under eat free. Anyone with questions can contact the church office at 632-6906.
