Tyrone Hospital announces CIO

Stephen Gildea has joined Tyrone Hospital as Chief Information Officer (CIO).
As CIO, Gildea is responsible for the development and implementation of Tyrone Hospital\’s strategic information technology plan, including development, implementation, and maintenance of clinical as well as management information systems. He has assisted Tyrone Hospital for the past year in the capacity of Interim Director of Information Technology.
Gildea is a seasoned information technology executive with more than 21 years of professional experience. He completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology at Penn State University and earned a bachelor of Arts degree in Management from St. Francis University. He is currently pursuing a graduate degree in business administration.
His professional experience includes 10 years with IBM. Following his experience at IBM, Gildea joined Mercy Hospital in Altoona as Chief Information Officer and was later promoted to the position of Chief Operating Officer. He also served as Vice-president of Product Development for Delta Health Systems/SMS in Altoona. Additionally, he served as Chief Information Officer at Mutual Benefit Insurance Company.
Gildea returned to the healthcare industry in 2004 when he launched his own business providing information technology management services to small hospitals, physician practice groups, and homecare agencies.
