Rockets blast Bellwood-Antis baseball team in six innings

The Bellwood-Antis baseball team made the long trip to Southern Huntingdon High School on the other side of Orbisonia on Monday. A 12-2 six-inning loss made it an even longer ride coming back home.
The Blue Devils were able to come back from an early deficit to tie the score after one inning at 1-1, but Southern, in improving their record to 8-4, scored two runs in the second frame to tack the lead again, then batted around in the third inning, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring six times to break the game wide open.
Fred Dorman led off the top of the second by belting a double to left center, was sacrificed to third base by L. J. Seidel and scored when Tyler McClellan grounded out to the right side to tie the score.
The Blue Devils scored their second tally in the fifth. McClellan singled to open the frame, but was forced at second base by Earnie Kelley. With one out, Josh Kleinfelter drilled a double to score Kelley, but Southern Huntingdon pitcher Jordan Yohn retired the next two B-A hitters without incident.
In fact, the Blue Devils had nine batters reach base with less than two outs and were only able to get two to across home plate.
In the first, Kleinfelter was safe on an error and Andy Brisbin singled to left to open the game. In the third Brisbin singled to right with one out, and advanced to second base on an error by the Rocket right fielder. In the fifth, Kleinfelter was stranded at second base. In the sixth inning, Chad Coho and Dorman hit back-to-back singles with one out and Adam DeArmitt worked Yohn for a walk to load the bases. In all of those situations, the Blue Devils failed to score any runs.
Yohn struck out six and walked one scattering seven hits to pick up the win for Southern Huntingdon. The Rocket righty finished strong fanning his final two batters with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth.
Rocket leadoff hitter Scott Everhart and Matt Baer both had three hits, Troy Hoover scored four times and Everhart had three RBI and Baer, Clair Traxler and Josh Crull each drove in a pair of runs for Southern.
Brisbin and Dorman led Bellwood-Antis with two hits each.
