Bellwood-Antis wins MAC Division 4 track championships

The Bellwood-Antis boys and girls track and field teams both earned Mountain Athletic Conference Division 4 championships with solid victories over Juniata valley on Thursday at Alexandria.
The Blue Devil boys extended their winning streak to 11 (11-1 overall and 4-0 in the MAC) with a 102 1/2-47 1/2 triumph over Juniata Valley.
Brandon Pruznak won in the 200, 400 and long jump and Tony DelGrosso was victorious in the discus and javelin to lead the way for the B-A boys who won 14 of the 18 events and placed second and third in both the 110 high hurdles.
Ben Hatch won the 800, Aaron bell won the 1600, Elliot Geist won the 3200 and Adam Mueller won the 300 intermediate hurdles for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devil 1600 relay team of Bell, Hatch, Chris Edmiston and Evan Hughes and the 3200 relay team of Bell, Liam Flynn, Hughes and Jamey Rimmey also won their respective races. The Blue Devils showed their strength and depth in sweeping all three places in the 800, 1600 and 3200 races.
“The kids did a real good job, this was one of our goals,” said B-A boys coach Nick Lovrich. “Our distance runners from 400 up really give us a strong performance and the field did a good job. We try to preach about getting the seconds and thirds-they add up and get you wins. Brandon has really been consistent for us winning three events today and Tony DelGrosso didn’t have his best day, but still had enough to win two events for us.”
The Lady Blue Devils downed Juniata Valley 97-53 to improve to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the MAC.
Steph Hatch led the way with wins in the high jump, long jump and triple jump and ran a leg on the winning 1600 relay. Sarah Bell won the 1600 and 3200, Ashley Mueller won the 200 and 100 IM hurdles and Allison Sinisi won both the javelin and pole vault for the B-A girls.
Lauren Leap won the 400, Jenna Ralston won the 800 and Lauren Carter won the 300 low hurdles. The Lady Blue Devils won all three relay races. Carter, Hatch, Erica Greene and Mueller took the 400 relay, Carter, Heather Greene, Chelsea Wilson and Ralston won the 1600 relay and Bell, Rebecca Colyer, Arin Cherry and Ralston won the 3200 relay.
“It comes back to things being balanced,” said Bellwood-Antis girls coach Julie Roseborough. “We had a lot of people in a lot of different areas score points for us. We knew their field events were strong, but we managed to hold our own, plus we have strong sprinters and strong distance runners. One of the biggest keys was winning all three relays.”
This is the second straight MAC Division 4 title for both the B-A teams. There has been no other Division 4 champs other than the Blue Devil boys and girls in the short two-year history of the Mountain Athletic Conference.
Bellwood-Antis will host the MAC Division Meet on Monday, April 25, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
