Attorney originally from Tyrone wins Girl Scout Alumna award

Former Tyrone resident, Barbara H. Beringer, has been awarded the 2005 Berks County Women of Distinction Girl Scout Alumna award.
Beringer is an attorney who practices in Wyomissing.
She established a solo law practice in 2004 concentrating on family law, social security disability law and estate administration and litigation. She is currently the co-leader of Cadette Girl Scout Troop 419 in the Wyomissing Service Unit of Great Valley Council.
Beringer has also served as the chair of the Lawyer Referral-Pro Bono Committee of the Berks County Bar Association for the past two years. She is also currently a member of the Women’s Law Section of the Berks County Bar Association and a member of the board of directors of the Family Guidance Center in Wyomissing. Beringer is also a member of the Service Outreach Committee of Bausman Memorial United Church of Christ.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and criminology (magna cum laude) from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and her Juris Doctorate from Dickinson School of Law.
Beringer was honored at the 2005 Women of Distinction Dinner held in Wyomissing on March 22. The awards are designed to honor outstanding professional women and support girls in Berks County.
Beringer is the second daughter of Harold and Elizabeth Beringer of Tyrone. She is married to the Rev. Douglas Shaffer, Pastor of the Bausman Memorial Untied Methodist Church of Christ in Wyomissing.
The couple have a daughter, 13-year-old Rachael. Beringer also has a step-son, Matthew of San Francisco, CA.
As a child, Beringer was a girl scout in Tyrone.
