Tyrone Chamber of Commerce already promoting fall Business and Career Expo

The Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce is already promoting this fall’s Tyrone Business and Career Expo 2004 which will include some new twists for the fifth year event.
The expo was promoted at last week’s Chamber luncheon and prospective exhibitors are already being sought through written correspondence.
The new angle for this year’s event will be the inclusion of the Tyrone Area School District through the use of its gymnasium and its students from grades nine through 12.
“I was involved last year when it was held at the Bullpen,” said Laurie Cowfer, expo committee member. “We were pleased with the exhibitor turnout but the amount of spectators wasn’t what we had hoped for.
“The reason we are having it at the gym is we are including a career day. Grades nine through 12 from the district will be able to participate.
“It (the gym) is a bigger facility and it will be easier to hold it there since we won’t have to transport the students,” Cowfer told The Daily Herald.
She also detailed an area where the event is seeking community support.
“We are looking for donations for a snack bar we are going to have,” said Cowfer.
“We are looking to receive donations and we are also looking for people who are willing to volunteer their time.
“We are going to give all the proceeds from the snack bar to a senior in the form of an award or scholarship,” explained Cowfer.
The Chamber will also be launching an advertising campaign within the next few weeks to promote the event.
With the move to the gymnasium, the expo will be able to have more exhibitors this year. However, chamber officials indicate the number of exhibitors is limited and space is on a first come, first serve basis.
Lunch will be provided for a prepaid fee of $5, and the snack bar will be available from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m.
The event will start at 10 a.m. and run until 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 30.
Tables will be provided, but skirting or drapery will have to be supplied by the individual exhibitor.
The registration cost is $25 but there is no charge for educational and or non-profit organizations. Reservations are due no later than September 1.
Exhibitors should complete a registration form along with any applicable check and mail it to, or drop it off at the Chamber office located at 1004 Logan Avenue.
