Charles Edgar Kirkpatrick

Charles Edgar Kirkpatrick, 84, formerly of Graystone, 1747 Adams Ave., Tyrone, and a resident of Tyrone Colonial Courtyard since Dec. 4, 2003 died at 5:20 a.m. Monday, May 17, 2004 at the Courtyard.
He was born Feb. 11, 1920 in Tyrone, a son of Charles A. Delilah M. (Hosband) Kirkpatrick.
He was married Sept. 28, 1940 in Tyrone, to Ethel Luellen Patterson who died March 9, 1979.
He is survived by four children, Ethel Mae Wolfe and her husband Blaine of Tyrone, Charles L. Kirkpatrick of Tyrone, Barbara Kay Taylor and her husband Richard of Tyrone, and Darlene Ann Anderson of Martinsburg; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandson.
Also, two brothers, Elmer Kirkpatrick and Donald R. Kirkpatrick, both of Tyrone and sisters Dorothy Umholtz and Edna Sherry, both of Tyrone; and Maxine Black and Delma Park, both of Chambersburg.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert E. on July 25, 1997; a brother, George D.; and sisters Ethel Beckwith, Jean Mayhue, Mabel Helsley and Betty Keefer.
He was a Life Member of the Blazing Arrow Hook & Ladder Fire Co., VFW No. 4559, American Legion No. 281; Tyrone Moose Lodge No. 25; a member of the Central District Fireman’s Assn., Blair County Allied Fireman’s Assn. A former member and past president of the Deepwell Hunting Camp. He had been locally recognized as a longtime volunteer caretaker of Soldiers Park in Tyrone.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps receiving a Purple Heart Medal on Iwo Jima.
He retired April 1, 1980 as a pipe fitter from Westvaco Corp. after 35 years of service.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone, with Rev. Norman E. Huff officiating. Interment and flag presentation will be at Blair Memorial Park.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
