Tyrone School District van crash sends 14-year-old girl to hospital

Philipsburg-based state police report a 14-year-old Tyrone Area School District student was treated for moderate injury at Tyrone Hospital Monday following a van crash in Taylor Township, Centre County.
According to police, a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 school transport vehicle driven by Janet Miller of Tyrone was northbound on state Route 220 when she slowed to turn onto Fowler Hollow Road. At this time, the van was struck from behind by a 1993 Plymouth Duster operated by Ryan Hamer of Port Matilda, who was also traveling northbound.
After impact, Hamer’s vehicle spun counterclockwise and came to its final point of rest facing west, perpendicular to SR 220. The van came to its final point of rest in a field about 126 feet northwest of the point of impact.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
According to police, six other students in the vehicle were not injured and all were wearing safety belts.
Hamer, and his passenger, Rebecca Moore, suffered injuries and were taken to Mt. Nittany Medical Center.
Police were assisted at the scene by the Tyrone Area School District Police, Moshannon Valley EMS, Port Matilda EMS, Port Matilda Fire and Rescue, and Bald Eagle Fire and Rescue.
