Tyrone track teams finally open season splitting with Bishop Guilfoyle

It was one of those days for the Golden Eagle track team. Tyrone opened the 2004 meet season with a 117-33 victory over visiting Bishop Guilfoyle. And in doing so, earned head coach Tony Yaniello his 180th victory at the helm of the TAHS program; Yaniello\’s record now stands at 180-47-2 since 1979. The Eagles performance Tuesday was almost equally as impressive, winning 15 of the 18 events, and sweeping all three medal places in eight events.
Double winners for Tyrone were Justin Wilson (110 hurdles and high jump), Billy Dean (200 meters and long jump), and Tommy Crowl (100 and 400 meter sprints). Single winners included Dan Domenick (300 hurdles), Josh Crabtree (800 meters), David Miller (pole vault), Leonard Wilson (triple jump), Ron Miller (shot put), Matt Wheland (discus), and Adam Shaffer (javelin). The relay teams of Billy Dean, David Miller, Leonard Wilson, and Trey Brocket (400 meter), and Justin Wilson, Dan Domenick, Leonard Wilson, and Tommy Crowl (1600 meter) rounded out the long list of winners on the day for the black and orange.
The Lady Eagles fell to the BG girls by a 93 to 51 count. It was a pretty good day though, all things considered. Tyrones\’ girls didn\’t contest any of the three relays. With their numbers already thin, the Eaglettes were forced to go with only 11 girls. Due in part to several standouts missing the contest to represent TAHS on the adjacent softball field. Those who competed, competed very well. Emily Lloyd won four events (110 and 300 hurdles and the triple and long jumps), while Samantha Friday (pole vault), Emily Ingle (400 meters), and Marissa Hoover (javelin) were also all victorious.
