Central PA junior high hockey team plays 4-4 tie with Altoona

The Central PA Wolves junior high team played to a 4-4 tie with Altoona on Thursday evening at Galactic Ice.
The Wolves scored twice in each of the first and third periods, while the junior Mountain Lions tallied once in the first and third stanzas and put two unanswered goals into the net to claim the tie. Neither squad was able to score in the overtime period.
Central PA benefited last-second lapses in the Mountain Lions defense to score twice score in the final seconds of periods to lift the Wolves into the tie.
Chris Carthew (Chestnut Ridge) opened the scoring for the Wolves at the 8:41 mark and following an Altoona goal, Adam Erlichman (Bedford) sored with just 12 seconds to play in the opening period, off an assist from Ryan Ferguson (Bedford) to give his team a 2-1 advantage.
In the third period, with the Wolves down 3-2, an unassisted goal by Taz Zielezinski tied the game again.
Altoona went ahead 4-3 at the 6:45 mark in the period, but once again a shot that just beat the buzzer retied the score for Central PA. With 0:12 on the scoreboard clock, Josh Kennedy (Spring Cove) put the puck in the net with an assist by Carthew.
The Wolves (11-1-2) have three games remaining before playoffs begin. They play Hollidaysburg on Feb. 19, at 6:50 p.m., Planet Ice on Feb. 25, at 6:30 p.m. and Northern Cambria on Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. All three games will be played at Galactic Ice.
