Penns Valley controls final three quarters to smash Blue Devils

Bellwood-Antis trailed Juniata Valley League first cycle champion Penns Valley just 14-12 after one quarter at Spring Mills on Wednesday night. The Blue Devils fell to 4-11 on the season however, when Penns Valley (12-2) shut the B-A boys down in outscoring them 48-15 over the final three quarters for a 62-27 victory.
“I’m proud of the players, because they never stopped playing and went after then the whole time,” said Bellwood-Antis coach Tim Keech. “We played hard and competed the whole game. We still have nine games to go, so we’ll look for improvement every game.”
Shawn Weiand led the Blue Devils with 16 points and Paul Greiner added nine points. Balanced scoring was a weakness for the Blue Devils however, with the remainder of the squad counting just two points, a bucket by Mark DelGrosso
The Blue Devils scored just seven points in the second half. Penns Valley oiutscored Bellwood-Antis over the last three quarters 22-8, 13-2 and 13-5.
The B-A boys basketball team concludes their three-road trip with a game at Claysburg-Kimmel on Friday. Game time for the junior varsity will be 6 p.m. with the varsity to follow at 7:30.
