Tyrone junior high boys defeat Rams for third win

The Tyrone junior high made the long trip to Penns Valley Friday night and came away with both teams notching wins.
The eighth grade team coached by Jim Cushion warmed the gym up and notched their fourth win of the season with a 44 – 26 victory over Penns Valley’s eighth graders.
Eight players hit the scoring column, with John Hampton leading the way with 11 points. Chris McCaulley tossed in 10, and Matt Brooks finished with nine to lead the way.
In the ninth grade game, Tyrone took a slim 15-10 lead into the lockerroom at halftime, and ballooned their lead to 12 (31 – 19) heading into the final quarter.
Penns Valley charged back to cut into the lead, but some clutch play by the Baby Eagles held the Rams off, allowing a bucket at the buzzer to set the final margin of victory.
“The kids are really coming together as a team,” stated coach Jim Domenick. “The first couple games we were searching for our roles, and have really grown the last couple games.”
In evening their record at 3 – 3, eight players got into the scoring column, led by Tyler Hoover’s 17. Russ Beck tossed in six, while Wade Branstetter and Jason Reese contributed four points each.
The Tyrone junior high is off during the holidays. Their next game will be Saturday, Jan. 3 at Spring Cove. Game time will be 3:30 p.m.
