York County author to sign books at Gardners on Saturday

Pennsylvania history buffs will be glad to hear that an author of an bestselling book will be in Tyrone Saturday to place her John Handcock on the publication.
Therese Boyd, author of The Best Places You’ve Never Seen: Pennyslvania’s Small Museums, will be signing copies of her book at Gardners Candies in Tyrone on Oct. 18 from 1-3 p.m. The book is published by the Pennsylvania State University Press and can be purchased for $18.95.
The piece takes the reader on a journey through some of Pennsylvania’s more interesting, lesser-known museums. From Bill’s Old Bike Barn in Bloomsburg to the Coal and Coke Heritage Center in Uniontown, from Photo Antiquities in Pittsburgh to the Christian Sanderson Museum in Chadds Ford, Boyd covered the state, finally choosing 42 museums to feature.
According to Boyd, each essay combines local history, interviews with the owners and other tourists, and her own observations to give the reader a real feel for some of the best “little places” Pennsylvania has to offer.
Directions and contact information, including websites, are listed for each museum, and an appendix contains additional small museums with similar subjects.
Therese Boud is a nearly lifelong Pennsylvanian and presently a York County resident. When she’s not driving the back roads looking for somewhere fun or writing about where she’s been, she edits books and teaches writing at Penn State York.
