Tyrone junior high hangs 30-12 loss on Panthers

The Tyrone Area junior high football team continued on their roll on Thursday afternoon with a 30-12 victory over Lewistown.
The Little Eagles stretched their winning streak to three with the win at Gray Veterans Memorial Field and improved their season record to 3-2-1.
Tyler Gillman scored three times and rushed for 139 yards to lead the Little Eagles offensive attack. Gillman scored on runs of five, one and 48 yards and Donnie Conrad tossed a nine-yard touchdown pass to Josh Shaffer for Tyrone, who jumped out to a 30-0 lead before Lewistown finally got on the scoreboard with two late scores.
James Updike added 55 yards on nine carries.
Quarterback Donnie Conrad completed three of five pass attempts for 36 yardand Gillman was one of two for six yards.
Josh Shaffer caught three passes for 36 yards and the touchdown and Justin Schopp had one pass reception for six yards.
On defense, Josh Shaffer had two solo quarterback sacks and shared another with Eddie Updike, who also had a quarterback sack of his own.
“Overall, I was pleased with the performance of the team,” said Tyrone junior high coach Dan Plummer. “We are coming together, playing hard for all four quarters. When they perform in that manner, they do well and are able to beat good football teams. We are disgusted about the first two games, but need to keep moving on from here.”
Tyrone travels to Philipsburg-Osceola next Thursday for a game against the Little Mounties at 6 p.m.
