Tyrone girls volleyball team tops Lady Panthers

The Tyrone Area girls volleyball team hosted Lewistown on Thursday evening.
The Lady Eagles won their second straight match in four games to improve their record to 6-8.
Emily Lloyd had nine service points for the Lady Eagles who took the first two games by identical 26-16 scores, dropped a very close third game 24-26 and then put the match away with a 25-20 win in game four.
Sara Mease had 10 digs, Ashley Roth had eight kills and Emily McKenna had five kills for Tyrone.
“We didn’t look very sharp, but the job got done,” said Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg. “It seemed like we had things under control, so we were able to get some younger players some varsity playing time. That was the plan coming into the match. Our passing has been off lately, but I am seeing some progress in our ability to attack the ball. If we can put it all together, we will be a tough opponent.”
The Lady Eagles junior varsity defeated Lewistown in three games, losing the first contest 23-25, then winning 25-23 and 17-15.
The Tyrone junior varsity travels to Philipsburg on Saturday for the Philipsburg-Osceola Jayvee Invitational at 9 a.m., while the next action for the varsity will be against Philipsburg-Osceola at home on Tuesday. Action will begin at 6 p.m
