Lady Lions down Tyrone

Tyrone hosted State College in girls tennis in an MAC match with the second-place Lady Lions handing the Tyrone girls a 6-1 defeat.
State College took all five singles matches before the Lady Eagles number one doubles team of Hilary McNelis and Missy Stager earned a hard-fought 8-6 victory. The McNelis/Stager duo have compiled an 8-2 mark in dual matches this season
State College improved their record to 10-2 with the triumph. The Lady Eagles did well to win a number of games along the range of seven matches, but were no match for the strong Little Lady Lions.
“We played very well today against kids who have years of practice and private lessons,” said Tyrone tennis coach Charles Fitzgerald. “I am always proud of our effort.”
Hilary McNelis and Missy Stager are representing Tyrone at District VI-AA tennis today in Altoona. McNelis is matched against Kayla Singer of Johnstown and Stager will battle Sangam Soi of Bishop Guilfoyle. The winner of McNelis’s match will draw Number One seed Priya Narahari of Westmont. The winner of Stager’s match draws Number Two seed Paula Ghilardotti of Huntingdon.
