Golden Eagle band wins at Conemaugh Township

This past Saturday evening, the Tyrone Golden Eagle band made the long trip to Davidsville to compete in the “Indian Invitational.” But the trip home wasn’t so long.
Competing in Group II against Elk County Catholic, Johnstown and St. Marys, the band turned in its best performance to date with a score of 82.0 to take home first place, along with specialty awards for Best Percussion, Marching, Music and Drum Major.
St. Marys came in second with a score of 80.4, and the last award for Best Auxiliary.
“We pushed the kids this week in practice and challenged them to pick up their performance,” said a happy Kris Laird, Tyrone band director, “and they responded. Now we have to keep the momentum and continue to improve.”
The Bellwood-Antis Blue Devils marching band competed in Group I. They scored an 85.15, with the award for Best Percussion. Windber won Group I with an 86.9 score, taking awards for Auxiliary, Marching and Music.
Next up for the Tyrone band is this coming Saturday at Williamsport.
