Blue Devil junior high bombs Penns Valley

The Bellwood-Antis junior high football team powered past Penns Valley 37-8 at Bellwood, on Thursday.
The Little Blue Devils (5-0), who remained undefeated with their fifth straight win, have now outscored their opponents 158-22.
Josh Kleinfelter and Devon Clapper each score a pair of touchdowns for the Blue Devils in the first half, who led 31-8 at halftime and just cruised in the second half. Both runners eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark as well.
Kleinfelter scored the first two TDs for B-A with 35 and 26-yard tallies in the opening quarter and then tacked on the final score in the third quarter on an 18-yard rush. Clapper scored twice in the second quarter, getting loose for an 88-yard jaunt and outrunning a defender to snare a perfectly thrown Evan Hughes pass for a 50 yard TD play.
Clapper also ran for two 2-pt. conversions, Danny Campbell caught a 2-pt. PAT pass from Hughes and Evan Celmo kicked one PAT.
Kleinfelter had his fourth interception in five games, Boe Latchford added an interception and Blaze Winterstein recovered a Ram fumble
“We were somewhat concerned before the game after such a big win against one of our top rivals (Bishop Guilfoyle) last week,” said Bellwood-Antis coach Charlie Burch, “but we didn’t have to worry, the kids came out ready to play. W e scored quickly, held them to three downs and out, and scored quickly again. After they scored a trick halfback pass, we got one right back on the following play when Clapper ran 86 yards. We are extremely pleased to be 5-0, heading toward something special with three more games to go. Now we play Chestnut Ridge, who we have never beaten, although we have only played them twice (0-1-1).”
The B-A junior high, looking like the old “Mainline Express” Bellwood-Antis varsity teams of the late 1940s and early 1950s travels to Fishertown next Thursday for a 6:30 p.m. contest against Chestnut Ridge.
