Bellefonte topples Tyrone girls to stay undefeated

The Tyrone junior high girls basketball teams traveled to undefeated Bellefonte on Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Raiders (13-0) kept their unbeaten string intact with a 51-27 decision over the Tyrone ninth graders.
Kayla Corle led the Lady Eagles with 12 points and Stefani Bryan added six points and eight rebounds.
“We made too many mental mistakes and couldn’t get our shots to drop in the early part of the game,” said Tyrone coach Kerry Naylor. “Bellefonte is big, strong and athletic. They attack well and play with a lot of excitement. We have seen the press they use and didn’t have any particular problems with it. We worked really hard, but were down 28-10 at the half and just couldn’t make it up.”
The seventh and eighth grade girls dropped their game with Bellefonte 25-16.
Sarah Halter was the Lady Eagles top scorer with five points.
Again the younger girls were behind at halftime. Tyrone shut out the Bellefonte girls in the third quarter to draw to within four points, but that was as close as they could get.
“They fought hard to make up the deficit,” said coach Naylor, but we just couldn’t get over the hump in the fourth quarter.”
The Tyrone junior high girls next action will be Tuesday at Indian Valley with game time set for 4 p.m.
