Tyrone opens golf schedule

Tyrone opened their 2003 golf schedule at the Sinking Valley Country Club on Thursday afternoon by hosting Bedford.
The Golden Eagles Thad Westley (74) and Jimmy Gillam (75) took top honors, but Bedford’s overall strength decided the outcome as the Bisons edged the Orange and Black 350-356.
Tyrone (0-1) has three returning starters in Westley, Gillam and Derrick Soellner, who recorded an 84.
While the strength comes from the three lettermen, the rest of the squad is inexperienced.
Tyler Rickards, a senior on the team for the first time this year carded a 123 and senior Nick Cushion and freshman Tyler Conrad each had a 125.
Matt Bulligton led Bedford with an 83 and the Bisons had three others record scores in the 80s to win with overall depth.
Tyrone, coached by Jim Gillam, is a member of the Central Pennsylvania High School Golf Association.
“Our returning starters will show a lot of leadership,” said coach Gillam. Our major concern however is the lack of numbers. we should be competitive and should be real good in tournament competition. We need someone to step up.”
