Tyrone Chamber golf to benefit Tyrone-Snyder Public Library

The Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce and 100.1 WPRR Radio have started to spread the word about their annual golf classic on Thursday, September 18 at the Sinking Valley Country Club.
The tournament is a two person scramble that tees off at 11 a.m. This year’s fundraiser will also benefit the new Tyrone-Snyder Library, with a portion of the proceeds going to pay for the library’s new building at 10th and Pennsylvania Ave.
“The library is a real big focus for the community and will be the center of town,” said Gary Donnor, a member of the Chamber of Commerce’s golf committee. “The Chamber is helping to push this with a percentage of our profits going to the library as they relocate into their new building.”
The Chamber is planning a great day of fun with lots of door prizes, awards for the longest drives and closest to the pin, plus the chance to win prizes by shooting a hole in one. This year the Chamber is adding more prizes tied into hole sponsorships with area businesses.
At the end of the tournament, there will be a buffet dinner, awards ceremony and the opportunity for everyone to mingle and share their golf experiences.
In a recent Chamber mailing, information was sent to businesses concerning the sponsorships offered for the event. Donnor told The Daily Herald that they have five member golf committee follows up on the phone with business contacts, vendors, car dealers and even golfers to secure sponsorships. The golf committee members include: Donnor who works at Albemarle; Linda Hershey, the owner of Custom Stuff; Tom Bartlett of Tyrone Hospital; Fran Brunhuber from M & T Bank and Tammy Datris of JJAN Financial.
Interested persons can get on the green as a sponsor, selecting from three different levels ranging from a gold sponsor for $1,000 which includes golfing for four, corporate sponsorship and recognition and includes the opportunity to display your company banner. A silver sponsor at $500 includes golfing for two and corporate recognition, and a hole sponsor at $80 includes the name of your business on one of 18 holes during the tournament. A hole in one sponsor can place a car, cash, vacations or other prizes at three different challenging holes.
Again this year a new car has been donated by Stultz and Brown Ford Lincoln Mercury and can be won by sinking the perfect hole in one at Sinking Valley.
“Last year’s event had 30 hole sponsors and 50 golfers and others donated door prizes,” said Donnor. “A team of two can play for $150 or an individual can participate for $75.”
Committee member Linda Hershey told The Daily Herald that the deadline for golfers is September 9, but that sponsors are needed as soon as possible.
“It’s a good fundraiser and last year was very good. Martins Oil was a great contributor last year,” Donnor stated.
The interim Tyrone Chamber of Commerce Director Rose Black said that while the tournament used to be bigger, its still a good fundraiser and is about 25 percent of the Chamber’s budget. The Tyrone Chamber of Commerce appreciates the community support whether you’re a player, a sponsor or both. And again this year the Chamber is giving back to the community by helping the library.
You can call the Chamber office at 684-0736 for more information or mail in your sponsorship or golf registration to Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce, 1004 Logan Avenue, Tyrone, PA 16686. Make checks payable to the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce.
Summer will start, the sun will shine and the autumn setting when it arrives will be the perfect backdrop as golfers and businesses continue to help the Chamber and this year the Tyrone-Snyder Library.
