Two more lawsuits filed against Diocese

Two more civil lawsuits were filed in the Blair County Court of Common Pleas yesterday against the Altoona-Johnstown Catholic Diocese, Bishop Joseph Adamec and former Bishop James J. Hogan.
In addition, two other priests have been named in the suits – Rev. John Boyle and Monsignor Thomas Mabon.
The announcement was made yesterday afternoon at a press conference at the Days Inn in Altoona by attorney Richard Serbin, who represents alleged victims Robert A. Paulson Jr., 44, and Darrin Mangiacarne, 25.
Mangiacarne said he was abused by Mabon while acting as an altar boy in the late 1980s and early 90s. He claimed Mabon would inappropriately touch him, kiss him and fondle him while in the changing area at St. Mary’s Church in Hollidaysburg.
Paulson claims he was abused by Boyle between 1973 and 1975. He said Boyle would give him alcohol until he passed out, afterwhich, he would be sodomized by Boyle. These incidents, according to the lawsuit, would occur at St. Agnes Rectory in Beaverdale.
