Radiation oncologist joins Tyrone Hospital medical staff

Tyrone Hospital is pleased to welcome Theresa Pagliuca, M.D, board certified radiation oncologist, to its medical staff.
Dr. Pagliuca is now seeing patients in Tyrone at 3 Hospital Drive. She is sharing space at the offices of Tyrone Medical Associates. She is the director of Radiation Oncology at the Cancer Center at Bon Secours Holy Family Hospital.
A number of patients from Northern Blair County and communities in contiguous counties travel to Altoona for cancer treatment. Pagliuca said her Tyrone location will reduce patient travel time and generally make things more convenient for patients. Patients who are undergoing treatment for cancer typically need to travel to the cancer center daily for a period of several weeks. The daily trips to the cancer center can be draining for patients as the cancer treatment often leaves them feeling fatigued.
“We are trying to make things more comfortable for our patients,” said Pagliuca. “Now they can see the doctor in Tyrone for their initial consultation and for all of their follow-up visits once their treatment concludes.”
According to Pagliuca, recovering cancer patients are monitored closely, which involves regular doctor visits. A variety of tests, including lab and imaging studies, may also be required in monitoring the patient. She said having office hours on the Tyrone Hospital campus will also give cancer patients easy access to the outpatient testing they need.
A native of Brooklyn New York, Pagliuca obtained her medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine in New York City.
She completed residencies in radiation oncology at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City and at James Graham Brown Cancer Center at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Ky. She completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Louisville affiliated hospitals. Her undergraduate studies were completed at the Brooklyn College of the City University of New York where she graduated summa cum laude. Her honors include Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Beta Kappa.
Dr. Pagliuca’s research experience includes studies to evaluate radiation oncology treatment options in pediatric and adult populations.
Her professional memberships include the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, American Medical Association, American Women’s Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society, Blair County Medical Society, and the American Cancer Society, Pennsylvania Division, Blair County Leadership Council.
In addition to providing clinical services, Dr. Pagliuca is currently clinical instructor, lecturer, and preceptor in the Department of Physician Assistant Sciences at St. Francis College in Loretto, Pennsylvania.
