Blue Devils make short work of Northern Cambria wrestlers

It took a lot longer to make the trip to Northern Cambria for the Bellwood-Antis junior and senior high wrestlers than it took for either match.
The Blue Devil-Colts varsity edition featured just five weight classes that were actually wrestled, with Bellwood-Antis winning two of them with the two schools tying 12-12 in matches that were settled on the mat.
At 152, B-A senior Jared Ervine (17-9) won for the eighth time in his last 10 matches by pinning Northern Cambria’s Dave Barrett in 1:46.
Dustin Earnest improved to 5-7 with a quick pin over Leo Westrick. Earnest quickly took Westrick down and worked for the fall at the 0:54 mark.
The match began at 171, with a forfeit win for Mike Thomas (8-9), followed by the win at 189, by Earnest.
After a no-match at 215, Dave Hoover of Northern Cambria won by technical fall over Chris Carrier (3-17), who was moved up a weight class by Bellwood-Antis coach Ron Wilson, so he could get another match.
“It would have been nice to be able to get more matches,” said Wilson. “We moved as many kids around as we could so they could get a match. Unfortunately, there still weren’t many we could accommodate. We feel it is important to get in as many matches for each kid as possible.”
At 103, Mike Paronish won a 16-4 major decision over B-A sophomore Shane Evans (8-14) for the second of the Colts three wins on the match.
Mike McGeary (3-19) picked up a forfeit at 112, and there was no match at either 119, or 125.
Will Edwards, normally the Blue Devils’ 119-pounder, weighed in at 125 and moved up to 130 to get a match with Northern Cambria’s Ryan Kosivlo. Kosivlo eked out a 6-4 decision over Edwards (14-5), who has wrestled just once since the West Branch match on Jan. 18.
Ron Colyer (6-9) picked up a forfeit at 135, for the Blue Devils, Padraig Flynn (3-13) got one at 140, and Dan Himes (6-4) had his hand raised for a freebie at 145.
Following Jared Ervine’s win at 152, Dwayne Cherry closed out the dual with a forfeit at 160, to slide his overall record over the .500 mark at 14-13, for the first time since the Tri-County Tournament in mid-December.
“The kids who wrestled worked hard and I am proud of them,” said coach Wilson. “We need to take the time between now and the districts to get healthy and work on correcting the mistakes we have been making. We hope to surprise some people at the districts.”
The Bellwood-Antis junior high under head coach Tim Andrekovich and assistants Darrell Claar and Jim Weyant, collected their 10th win of the year thumping the Northern Cambria junior high 69-28.
B-A (10-5) got forfeit wins from Willie Dukes (165), Caleb Stephens (185), Tyler Narehood (250), Jordan Miller (75), Donnie Partner (80), Eli Colyer (100), Shane Noye (105) and Brandon Beech (110) to ease the job.
The match began at 115, with Ronnie Wilson earning a 4-2 win over Overdorff of Northern Cambria to get the Little Blue Devils off and running.
Josh Hanna (138), Trevor Latchford (145) and Ricky Shawley (85) won by fall for B-A.
