Tyrone Council approves 2003 budget

The Tyrone Borough Council approved the 2003 final budget at its meeting last night.
The council voted 8-0 to approve Ordinance 1193 the final 2003 budget. There were no changes to the proposed budget that was submitted to council in November by Borough Manager Al Drayovich.
“The three ordinances that are presented to council tonight for action are the standard ordinances that are prepared annually with respect to the budget,” said Drayovich. “Ordinance 1193 is the final budget for all the funds. It is the same as the 2003 proposed budget that was proposed to council and approved in November. It was advertised and made available for public review and inspection. Now it is presented for council’s consideration.”
The council also voted 8-0 to approve Ordinance 1194, the 2003 fees, taxes, etc. This approval calls for no increases in taxes, water rates or sewer rates for 2003. They voted 6-0 with two abstentions to approve the compensation for borough officials and employees. Council members Bill Latchford and Jim Beckwith abstained because of relatives that are employed by the borough.
The council also by an 8-0 vote re-appointed Robert Miller to a four-year term on the Tyrone Borough Authority and Judy Duey to a three-year term on the Zoning Hearing Board. The council voted 7-0 to approve Jim Beckwith to a two-year term as Tyrone Borough Fire Chief. Beckwith abstained in the vote.
Council also approved exceptions for the housing rehabilitation project. The amount that was passed was an additional $7,000 to $8,000 to pay for cost run overs due to lead based paint being in the dwellings. The approval was for properties at 1505 Pennsylvania Avenue and 2054 Riddle Avenue.
Council will meet the first Monday in January.
